Kyleanne Hunter, Ph.D.
Dr. Kyleanne Hunter is an expert in outcome driven integration. She is a recognized authority on understanding the second- and third- order effects of attempts at large-scale organizational diversity integration and offering solutions that leverage the benefits of diversity to help achieve success. Both her research and her personal experiences reflect the way in which diversity can help an organization achieve its goals more effectively and efficiently.
As a Marine, after several combat tours as an AH-1W “Super Cobra” pilot, she was instrumental in crafting the policies for the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” and the integration of women into combat roles, in such a way that military effectiveness was enhanced from the diverse perspectives and experiences of newly admitted members. Her recognized expertise has led to work as advisor for several international militaries working to expand their participatory base and enhance operational effectiveness.
Dr. Hunter is published in numerous journals and has presented at conferences around the world on out-come driven diversity and military effectiveness. Through her research on military effectiveness, she has developed an integration index and a model of dynamic, outdriven integration that has been applied to numerous industries to achieve profitability, and efficiency. She has been featured as an expert on CNN, Al Jazeera, NPR, PBS Newshour, and featured in the series America Divided. In addition, her writing frequently appears on the pages of The New York Times and The Washington Post. Her forthcoming book, How Gender Shapes Security: The Wars we Fight (Palgrave MacMillan, 2021), applies her integration index to explain strategic decision-making processes during the 21st Century’s wars.
to lecture at senior military academies, corporate retreats, and women’s conferences. Her remarks leave the audience thinking differently about why diversity matters, and the ways in which they can practice more effective diversity in their daily lives.
Dr. Hunter sits on the board of several international non-profits, as well as the research institute IMPACT: Peace. She is an assistant professor of Military and Strategic Studies at the United States Air Force Academy, director of the Athena Leadership Research Project, an adjunct professor of Security Studies at Georgetown University, a non-resident fellow at the Brute Krulak Center for Innovation and Creativity, and a senior adjunct fellow at Center for New American Security.
